Tom vs The Worlds Taxi Drivers
I always wanted to name my website www.whyihatetaxidrivers.com. It has been an ongoing battle. Putting it frankly I detest being ripped off. I know - I do need to let it go.
Tom 5-3 Taxi Drivers (22.12.2008 Mendoza, Argentina)
The same taxi driver who scams me on the 20th turns up at the hotel. Seems he thinks we're going to a winery. And he's bought a translator (hopefully at cost). No thanks. Ask for a ride to the airport. He wants 30 pesos - I offer 20 pesos. Reluctantly accepts. Counter-attack!
Tom 4-3 Taxi Drivers (20.12.2008 Mendoza, Argentina)
After a great day of wine tasting and the taxi driver being quite chatty and friendly, dishes me an extra big bill after visiting one more winery than planned. Stunned and out of practise after 20 days I paid up! Bamboozled me - dribbled right through my legs while I was not expecting it.

Into my stride now. Arriving on a domestic flight I head for departures ignoring the demands for 7000 kaht at arrivals. 5000 kaht gets my taxi - locals pay 4500 kaht. Solid goal.
Tom 3-2 Taxi Drivers (18.11.2008 Bangkok, Thailand)
The taxi drivers insist on their price saying I will not find cheaper than 300 baht - but I do - a shared van costs 135 baht. Saying that I nealry miss my flight. A deflected goal.
Tom 2-2 Taxi Drivers (17.11.2008 Kathmandu, Nepal)
My hotel tries to sell me a taxi. I declined feeling I can get one at 5.30am in the morning. In the morning they change their tune and sell me the taxi at less than the going rate. Sadly someone else pays full whack. Each goal counts!
Tom 1-2 Taxi Drivers (08.11.2008 Delhi, India)
An 89th minute goal in Delhi! The taxi driver drops me off at the airport, frowning and tutting. I had told him all I had was 300 rupees (a lie!). It was 5am in the morning - a risky call. A superb goal!

After two days of haggling, walking away etc. I just feel the Delhi taxi drivers have got the better of me. They are the Champions League of Evil Taxi drivers.

Arriving at Delhi Airport at 1am I arrange for the hotel to send a cab with my name on it. Delhi taxi drivers are notorious for scams and I'd rather avoid it. In truth I feel this is an own goal...
